BRADLEY VS PETERSON / DARCHINYAN VS ROJAS –>>LIVE STREAMING
SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING will close out an exciting and memorable 2009 with an outstanding world championship doubleheader featuring two boxers in the main event who do not know the meaning of defeat — WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley (24-0, 11 KOs, 1 No-Contest) and 140-pound challenger (27-0, 13 KOs) Lamont Peterson. In an excellent matchup, the talented, undefeated fighters will square off for Bradley’s WBO junior welterweight title in Rancho Mirage, Calif., near Bradley’s hometown of Palm Springs.
In the co-feature, popular, devastating knockout artist Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan (32-2-1, 26 KOs) will drop back down in weight and try to regain his winning ways when he defends his WBC and WBA 115-pound belts against hard-hitting super flyweight Tomas Rojas (32-11-1, 22 KOs).
The 26-year-old Bradley is one of the best in the 140-pound division. In his last defense on Aug. 1, a fight with Nate Campbell was originally announced as a TKO 3 victory for Bradley, but the result was overruled by the California State Athletic Commission and went into the books as a No Contest.
The aggressive, physical and well-conditioned Bradley captured the WBC title in Great Britain with an upset victory over Junior Witter on May 10, 2008, and defeated WBO champ Kendall Holt by unanimous decision in a unification bout in Montreal last April.
Peterson (27-0, 13 KOs), of Washington, D.C., is one of the hottest prizefighters in the division. A solid boxer-puncher with terrific overall skills, the 25-year-old Peterson has one of the most compelling back stories in all of sports. Peterson and his brother, fellow top-prospect Anthony, were left homeless as children after their father landed in jail for a drug conviction.
After years of homelessness–fighting on the streets to survive and jumping from foster home to foster home–the Petersons were discovered by trainer Barry Hunter, who took them to his gym and taught them the sweet science. Boxing gave them discipline, hope and the drive to become world champions.
Darchinyan, of Sydney, Australia, by way of Armenia, is coming off an upset 12-round unanimous decision loss to then-IBF bantamweight champion Joseph King Kong Agbeko in July. A two-division world champ Darchinyan, who was heavily favored in the fight, was fighting for the first time at 118 pounds after dominating the 115-pound division.
The 29-year-old Rojas, of Veracruz, Mexico, registered a ninth-round TKO over Everado Morales to snare the for WBC interim belt on July 18. In his first defense, he recorded a lopsided 12-round unanimous decision over Evans Mbamba on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Veracruz, Mexico.
Rojas, who, like Darchinyan, is a southpaw, has won three in a row and is unbeaten in his last six (5-0-1).
